New Extracare Retirement Village

The new £35m development from The Extracare Charitable Trust opened in 2017. The Lumen Architect was commissioned to design a large feature piece for the reception area and a themed lighting scheme for the Village Hall.
The main reception feature is 3m in diameter and the brief included a requirement to look like randomly hung pipes.
The Village Hall lighting was developed around the car industry and the historic wire wheel from a past production vehicle; our concept was 1200mm diameter shades with wire wheels in the centres, surrounded by black and white polo shades with independently switched circuits to represent white wall tyres; all capped off with genuine wheel spinners, refurbished from local historic sports car production.
There are also wall lights to match the ceiling pendants that represent half a wheel and mounted vertically.
